Signs You Probably Need a New Commercial Heating System

Commercial heating systems are put under a lot of strain during the fall and winter months. That strain has consequences, namely the higher number of repair needs that often show up during these months. Preventive maintenance can go a long way towards reducing the odds of a serious problem affecting your system, which is why we recommend it to all of our customers. However, no amount of maintenance can guarantee that your system will go the entire season without developing problems. That’s why you need to be on the lookout for any signs that your commercial heating system is dealing with some sort of issue. The faster you can identify signs of a problem, the faster you can have it repaired and the better off your system will be. The following are a few of the more common signs that your system is in need of repairs.

Low Airflow

If your system isn’t circulating as much air through the building as it should be, then it’s probably either an issue with the air filter or the air handler. The air filter in the system needs to be changed every few months while using the system heavily, or else it will become clogged. A clogged air filter will prevent much of the airflow from making it into the system, which means that it won’t be able to circulate air through the building properly.

The air handler is the part of the system that is supposed to circulate air through the building while it’s operating. If the air handler malfunctions, the heater won’t be able to blow air through the ducts the way it’s supposed to. If your system appears to be struggling with either of these issues, you’re going to need to call a professional to resolve it for you.

Heating Output Issues

If the system is blowing enough air, but the air itself isn’t warm, you may have a different set of issues. In the case of heat pumps, it might be that you have a refrigerant leak that is robbing the system of output capacity. The lower the refrigerant level in the system drops, the lower its output will drop with it. You’re going to need to have a professional technician take care of your refrigerant line if that’s the source of the problem.

If you’re using a gas-burning heating system, it’s also possible that you have some sort of issue with your burner assembly. Oftentimes, low heat output is caused by carbon buildup on the burner assembly jets. The carbon buildup prevents the jets from igniting properly, which cuts into the heat output of the system. Professional cleaning should resolve this problem.

Remember, these are only a few of the signs that your system might be dealing with an issue of some kind. Make sure that you call a professional technician any time you notice something suspicious with your heating system.
