Maintaining Great Indoor Air Quality

If you think that the air in your home is of a higher quality than the air outside by default, it isn’t. We all know that there is some pollution in the air outside, but few homeowners understand that the air quality indoors is often lower than that outside. Fewer realize that this is often the case by a significant margin! Remember, modern homes tend to be sealed up very tightly. That’s great for energy efficiency, but not so much for indoor air quality.

Fortunately for you, the IAQ professionals on our team are never more than a phone call away. Environment Masters, Inc. is here to find the right air filtration and/or purification systems for your needs. Don’t count on the standard air filter in your whole-house heating or air conditioning system to do the job. Those filters are of relatively low-efficiency ratings and are really there to protect the HVAC system itself, not the air quality throughout the home.

Make Sure That You Are Using the Appropriate System

When you are struggling with indoor air quality in Madison, Ridgeland, Flowood, or the surrounding areas, you need to remember that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to improving those conditions. Different systems are used to combat different issues, and the most successful indoor air quality systems are those that take a multi-pronged approach.

Air filtration systems are a common starting point. We mentioned above the standard air filter in your HVAC system is not really going to do much to improve indoor air quality throughout your home. A designated air filtration system with an appropriate MERV (minimum efficiency reporting value) for your system, however, will successfully remove many contaminants from the air that you breathe in your living space.

Air purifiers are another option to consider, and they take a much more active approach to purifying the air in homes. There are a lot of different makes and models of air purifiers out there, but we strongly recommend the Air Scrubber by Aerus. This system is integrated directly into your ductwork to purify the air and reduce particles that can irritate asthma and allergies. It is great for protecting your family from dangerous contaminants and pollutants and for protecting your HVAC systems from dust build-up. Additionally, it reduces odors, visible smoke, and microbial populations on surfaces. By using ActivePure Technology, which consists of a special UV light and photocatalyst target, the Air Scrubber will keep your air clean!

Both air filtration systems and ionization air purifiers are great options for removing pollutants from the air circulating through your home, but they are not designed to deal with biological pollutants like mold spores, viruses, and bacteria. If you want to take care of these different biological pollutants, you cannot simply trap them. You must destroy them. Otherwise, they can continue to reproduce in the system, putting your health at continued risk.

UV (ultraviolet) air purification systems are the perfect solution in such cases. With a UV air purifier, such pollutants are attacked on a biological level, with vital processes disrupted to prevent further reproduction. UV air purifiers are devastating for these pollutants, but they pose no harm to people or pets in your home.
