How to Know If Your Thermostat and HVAC System Are Compatible
Making decisions about home systems — whether it’s an upgrade, replacement, or maintenance — should never be rushed. Especially when it comes to your thermostat,
Commercial heat pumps are sturdy, but not invincible. With us moving into the summer season, it’s important that you keep an eye out for signs that your commercial heat pump is in need of professional services. Preventive maintenance can lower the odds of problems developing significantly, but it cannot eliminate them entirely. Have a look below at some of the more common signs that your commercial heat pump is in need of repairs this summer.
A heat pump that can’t keep you cool during the summer heat isn’t much good for anything. Well, it’s good for heating, but probably not that either if it’s having trouble cooling properly. Decline in cooling output can happen for a number of different reasons. Refrigerant leaks will rob your system of the fluid it needs to operate properly, and can eventually cause it to fail completely. It’s also possible that the air handler is malfunctioning, or that the air filter is clogged. Either of these issues will prevent the heat pump from properly circulating air throughout the building. Low cooling output is never a good sign, regardless of what is causing it. Make sure that you call for repairs if you notice your system doing this.
Your climate control costs are obviously going to rise over the next few months, as you’re going to be using your heat pump much more often than you normally do. Still, you should probably call for a professional if it seems like the system is costing more to operate than it should. Unexplained rises in monthly operating costs are often a sign that the system is working harder than it should be. That could mean that the heat pump is simply old, and needs to operate for longer to accomplish the same temperature changes it once did with less effort. Or, it could mean that something specific is detracting from the system’s efficiency. Best to call a technician to examine the system, just to be safe.
Short cycling is when the heat pump turns on and off every couple of minutes without completing a full cycle. It’s often caused by either an electrical issue or a problem with the compressor in the system. Regardless of the source of the problem, though, what you should be worried about are the consequences. Short cycling makes it very difficult for the heat pump to properly cool the building, and increases the level of wear and tear the system accumulates. If you let your heat pump short cycle for a long enough period of time, it will eventually break down because of it. Call for repairs as soon as you can to prevent this from happening to your system.
